Ask registration questions

Collect more than a name and email at checkout — company, job title, sectors of interest — and print each attendee's own name on their badge.

Every buyer gives you a name, email and phone at checkout. If you run an exhibition or a conference you usually need more — who they work for, what they do, what they came to see. Open your event, go to Event infoRegistration, and add the questions you want.

Buyers answer them in the same checkout form as their name and email. They never fill in a second form.

Add a question

  1. Open your event and choose Event infoRegistration.
  2. Select Add question.
  3. Type the Question as you want the buyer to read it — for example "Company name".
  4. Pick an Answer type: short or long text, a number, an email, a phone number, a date, or a list to pick one or several options from.
  5. Choose Ask thisOnce per order or Per attendee.
  6. Turn on Online if buyers must answer it, and save.

Once per order, or per attendee?

This is the choice that matters most.

Once per order asks the question a single time, no matter how many tickets someone books. Country and city usually belong here — one person booking five places is booking them from one place.

Per attendee asks it again for every ticket. Company and job title belong here, because they go on the badge. Someone booking three places answers three times, and each badge prints its own answers.

Names on badges

The first row of the list is Full name, marked Built in. Switch it on and checkout asks who each ticket is for, then prints that name on that person's ticket and badge instead of the buyer's.

Required online, required at the box office

Each question has two separate switches, and they are deliberately not the same thing.

Online holds buyers on your storefront to the question. Box office holds your counter staff to it. Turning Box office on means a walk-up sale cannot be completed until the operator has typed the answer — which is right for a paid conference badge and wrong for a queue at the door on opening morning.

Leave Box office off unless you genuinely want staff blocked. Your counter can still answer every question; it just will not be forced to.

Reading the answers back

Answers appear on the order in Orders, tagged with the ticket they belong to for per-attendee questions. They also become extra columns in your transactions CSV, one per question, headed with the question as you wrote it — see Export transactions.

"Tickets" or "Registration"?

At the top of the tab, How this event reads switches the words your buyers see. Choose Registration and your event page says "Register" instead of "Get tickets", the checkout button says "Complete registration", and the emails talk about badges. Choose Tickets for a show.
